This Weekend's Assignment

For our first assignment for the second semester, please meet your reading goal for class Tuesday and keep an active account of your reading via post-its. This can be short, but should demonstrate consistent reflection about reading.

WW New Concept: The Dangling Modifier

Many of you are taking the SAT this weekend. This style error often appears in the writing section. Yes, on the new SAT as well. For those that are not you should still know this for your writing in college.

Weekend Practice

This weekend write one blog about your reading over the course of the next few days. You can write about any aspect of the reading you like, but try using a variety of text-embedding styles in your entry. We'll focus particularly on this the next time we conference. 

For Thursday

In a blog entry addressed to your author study group propose a soundtrack for your reading this week. Explain why you think these songs are appropriate for the text and how they could add to the meaning of the text.

This week we´ll begin exploring tone. You can see our tone word chart here. When you get a copy of the sheet please glue it into your notebooks, or keep the pdf handy on your electronic device.

Homework for this Weekend

Set a new reading goal for class next Tuesday.

Be sure to bring to class a few vocabulary words to focus on. 

Welcome Back

Next class, on Friday, we will have our vacation reading assessment. You will need to bring in your notes from reading, as that will be part of the assessment. For most of you, this would be your post-its.
