For Next Class

Revise your paper to include one transitional phrase between each paragraph. Also, take into consideration the feedback given.

Laptops will be available for you next class.

Transitional Phrases

Most - if not all - of you are familiar with transitional phrases. Here is a quick reminder about what transitional phrases are and why we use them.

Here is a sheet you can download and refer back to for future reference.

Remember this is something you should use in all of your classes.

Vacation Reading

I know what you're thinking. He's nefarious, he's pernicious, he's terrrrrible.

Over the "Spring" recess, I'd like you to read Herman Melville's Bartleby the Scrivener. It is available to take out from Alonso. If you'd like to get a head-start, please do. This way you won't have any vacation reading.

Don't worry. It's very short.

We'll have a timed writing exercise on it our first day back.

In my defense, the exam is almost upon us, so we need to keep up our reading skills.

Homework for Friday

Please listen to this podcast and in a brief paragraph write an informal reaction to it on your blog. Be sure to hyperlink correctly to the podcast.

You can also find this podcast on iTunes, look for Poemtalk and Jaap Blonk.

Sample Works Cited Page

Have a look at this page.

A.What do you notice about its formatting?

B. How is it organized?

C, What different kinds of publications are cited?

Intro and Outro

You can find today's mini-lesson on introductions and endings here.

Shakespeare Point Opportunity

For those interested in earning some Shakespeare Points, there is a great opportunity in the following days: the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro. At this festival there will be groups from all around the world. However, to earn Shakespeare Points you must see one of the following works, then take a picture with your ticket stub in the lobby and post it on your blog. Be aware check the maturity rating of the performance. Some of these performances can be very heavy and can feature explicit material.

This includes a Danish production of Hamlet (something not rotten in Denmark);

There is a production of puppet Othello:

There is a Colombia production of the comedy Two Gentlemen of Verona:

And while not Shakespeare, definitely an AP Lit classic, Anton Chekov's Uncle Vanya (Colombian production):

Here are two more Shakespeare functions in Spanish:

In addition, there is a renown Korean company invited:

These are all performed in their original languages with Spanish subtitles. While I realize this is not "English" per se, it is the closest we can get to an "English" theater experience. It's also really fun! Maybe I'll see you there.

For Writers Workshop

For our next class be sure to bring your close readings from last class. That's roughly your first two pages. Leave off the introduction. Just jump right into analysis.

There will be a grade for this, however, you will not be graded on content. It has to be printed here in class.
